About this Course

Module One: Communing with the Universe

In this class we talk about how to create a quiet mental and physical space to withdraw to, to facilitate your mindfulness practice. This first class also explores practical exercises to help us slow down, access our inner universe and find calm. We also complete a colour meditation, exploring the different moods and feelings associated with different tones. This helps us understand our own responses to colour, and how colour can be used to fuel our ideas and imagination.

Module Two: Building a Creative Practice

In order to build a creative practice, it’s helpful to take an inventory of the tools you already have in your ‘toolkit’. Creating time and space for creativity is also a practice we build in this class – a series of practical exercises helps you to consider self care and energy balance. We also explore the art of connecting hearts, minds and bodies to our intuition through the wonderfully free form of expression – doodling!

Module Three: Starting a Creative Project

This class starts the preparation for creating a ‘soul portrait’. You’ll explore a range of ways to approach a creative project. We look at montage, storyboarding, writing and journaling techniques as techniques for exploring ideas around identity, life journeying and personal growth..

Module Four: Journey of the Caves: A Shamanic Quest

Explore the power of imaginative visualisation. You’ll tap into your natural imaginative capabilities by participating in a guided visualisation exercise. This is a helpful process to draw out and explore narratives about your own life’s path and will serve as the foundation for your ‘Soul Portrait’.

Module Five: Introduction to Abstract Painting

In this class you will explore a number of creative exercises to help you stop thinking and start abstracting! You’ll get comfortable with applying acrylic paint in a range of different ways including splatter, layering, washing, blocking, scraping and brushing.

Module Six: Making your Mark: Creating a Soul Portrait Part 1

Bring your new creativity and mindfulness skills together to begin your very own abstract painting; a ‘soul portrait’ that reflects who you are at the deepest level right now and who you might become in the future.

Module Seven: Optimistic Future Forecasting: Visioning our Best Futures

You’ll practice mindful positivity and use your enhanced visualisation skills to imagine what your best possible future may look like, and what the pathway to get there may look like.

Module Eight: Making your Mark: Creating a Soul Portrait Part 2

In this class, you’ll complete your ‘Soul Portrait’, reflecting on the ideas and intentions present in your artwork. You’ll have the opportunity to reflect on how you might continue to explore, expand and consolidate your own mindful creativity practice.
